Senior Care Volunteer Network (SCVN)

What We Do

SCVN provides direct assistance to older adults utilizing the caring support of community volunteers. This unique support provides services so seniors so they can remain living independently in their own home, or the home of a loved one, for as long as possible. Volunteers provide transportation to life-essential and life-enriching destinations throughout McHenry County. Some other direct services provided by the volunteers of our network may include shopping assistance or help running errands, companionship or accompaniment to the store or pharmacy, minor repairs to their home, help with seasonal yardwork, non-medical respite to relieve a full-time caregiver, use of our medical equipment loan closet (any age).

Who We Serve

SCVN serves seniors 60+ living in McHenry County and all of Sun City, Huntley (including the Kane County portion). Volunteers provide the transportation services, so a rider must be able to get in and out of a personal vehicle without assistance.

Availability

Service requests can only be called in during open office hours (above), and transportation requests of any kind require a (3) day notice. All requests are filled based on volunteer availability.

Eligibility Requirements

Any senior 60+ living in McHenry County can enroll in our program as a care receiver. To receive any sort of transportation service, a care receiver must be fully ambulatory without assistance and able to advocate for themselves. Other services, such as minor home repairs, seasonal yardwork, non-medical respite relief, shopping assistance, or friendly visits require less autonomy and eligibility is assessed at the time of Intake.
