Summary:

This training reviews signs and symptoms of Schizophrenia including common behaviors that members may display and the challenges those behaviors pose to staff. Staff will learn tools and interventions to address these challenges. This training includes an overview of Social Skills Training and how to apply specific interventions and techniques from this evidence-based practice to help members struggling with negative symptoms of Schizophrenia as well as tips for responding to delusional thoughts.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize common signs, symptoms, and associated behaviors of Schizophrenia.
  2. Review common medications.
  3. Understand your role as a clinician in the therapeutic process.
  4. Learn how to apply two or more interventions to members experiencing positive or negative symptoms related to Schizophrenia.

Presenter:

Andrew Hannigan – Assistant Director of Workforce Development

Andrew has 15 years of experience in mental health, having worked in residential, community and inpatient settings as well as providing individual counseling. He provides trainings through Thresholds, a large mental health agency in Chicago. Andrew also develops e-learnings for Thresholds and other mental health agencies. Topics range from Evidence-Based Practices in mental health to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.
