Join us as we celebrate National Child Health Day with some of the leading clinical youth providers in McHenry County. This interactive training will provide interventions and strategies to help build solid relationships that facilitate connections with children and families, introduce and practice play based interventions and utilize laughter in treatment. Expect a unique opportunity not only to develop a strong foundation with younger populations, but also to delight your own inner child.

Engaging & Connecting with Families:

Jacqueline Rhew will lead an interactive discussion around interventions and strategies to promote connections with families during the therapeutic process. There will be a special emphasis placed on trauma informed practices.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Be prompted to self-reflect on their beliefs and mindsets, especially how personal reactions can impact confidence, motivation, and engagement of family members.
  2. Gain strategies to help family members to feel empowered to connect with their children in a way that promotes healing and understanding.
  3. Learn interventions to assist families in managing their emotional responses, as well as discuss ways to promote increased motivation, healthy goal setting, routine, and structure for their children.

Foundational Knowledge of Play Therapy:

Erin Brumfield Grima will provide brief introduction to play-based interventions and the history of play therapy is intended to help the mental health clinician establish foundational knowledge. A mixture of lecture interspersed with playful activities will create a fun and interactive environment for learning. Each professional will have the opportunity to complete play-based interventions for real hands-on learning. Participants will leave with interventions, knowledge and hopefully a desire to learn more about play therapy and how to incorporate play into their therapy practice.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Define the difference between directive and non-directive play therapy.
  2. Recognize the history of play therapy.
  3. Learn and be able to apply three play-based interventions to use with children.

Laugh For the Health of It:

Shira Greenfield: This is a lighthearted 60 minute presentation that outlines the physiological and psychological benefits of laughter.  It also explores how relationships and teams are impacted by laughter.  Though the presentation is rooted in science, it has people leaving feeling energized and brighter.
