Summary:

Mental Health Professionals use a unique skillset to provide care to the clients that they treat. Using these skills, however, can place the clinician at risk for various adverse experiences such as Vicarious Trauma, Compassion Fatigue, Burnout, and Countertransference. In the first half of this training, we will learn about these experiences and how they manifest, as well as taking an in-depth look at Vicarious Trauma and the professional and personal consequences that impact clinicians. The second half will provide strategies to minimize the negative impact of these experiences on clinicians in order to continue to provide quality care while ensuring the provider’s wellbeing.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand adverse experiences that impact clinicians and how they differ.
  2. Explore Vicarious Trauma in depth and how it manifests in providers.
  3. Learn about the professional and personal consequences of Vicarious Trauma for providers.
  4. Identify ways to manage Vicarious Trauma and implement Self-Care.
