Overview: A look at the intersection of intimate partner violence, sexuality, and gender.

Summary: Intimate partner violence impacts 12 million Americans a year, regardless of race, age, gender, sexuality, religion, education, or economic status. But did you know that the LGBTQIA+ community is affected at an equal or even higher rate compared to their heterosexual counterparts? This presentation will break down what intimate partner violence is, types of abuse, the cycle of violence, and how to help victims all with a focus on the LGBTQIA community.

Presenter:

Elissa Crowley Koroch, She/Her, Outreach and Training Coordinator, has been employed with Turning Point, Inc. since November 2019. Elissa graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Wisconsin Superior in 2011 and started her career in youth programming.  Elissa worked in schools, park districts, and non-profits before her 7-year career with the YMCA. During her time at Turning Point, Inc. Elissa has received her Certification as an Illinois Domestics Violence Professional. In August of 2021, Elissa was promoted from Prevention and Education Advocate to her current role as the Outreach and Training Coordinator, set with the task to build a brand-new department at Turning Point, Inc. This new department’s focus is on building a strong prevention and outreach program teaching everyone they deserve a healthy and safe relationship.
