Objectives/Summary: In this brief presentation, Art will discuss why we celebrate Disability Awareness Month, how things can be both bad and better at the same time, the importance of planning, and the significance of Positive Thinking and the impact Positive Psychology is having with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Bio: Art Dykstra, CEO of the Trinity Foundation and the Cherry Hill Consulting Group, is a well-known author and speaker whose major interests are leadership development, organizational culture and working to support persons with disabilities. He is the author of numerous publications, including Outcome Management and Creating a Positive Organizational Culture and with Tim Williams co-authored Gossip! You Won’t Believe This. His most recent book, authored with his son Thane Dykstra, PhD, is A New Plan: Using Positive Psychology to Renew the Promise of Person-Centered Planning for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. Art has served on state and national boards of directors and chaired many of them. He has been a university faculty member, organizational consultant and program advisor. He is a fellow of the American Association on Intellectual Disabilities. Art and his wife, Anita, live in the Chicago suburbs. In his spare time he enjoys fishing, gardening and bike riding.
